Nāgabodhi, a distinguished disciple of Nāgārjuna from Southern India, is celebrated for his mastery of esoteric Buddhism and his profound spiritual accomplishments. Under Nāgārjuna’s guidance, Nāgabodhi acquired extraordinary wisdom and esoteric knowledge, becoming a vital figure in the transmission of the Vajrayāna teachings.

Renowned for his miraculous powers, Nāgabodhi’s influence extended across the ten directions. His virtuous deeds brought harmony to the world, and his mastery over the elements allowed him to traverse heaven and earth with effortless freedom. Residing in Southern India, Nāgabodhi dedicated himself to propagating the Dharma and liberating sentient beings, earning reverence across regions for his compassionate teachings.

Nāgabodhi’s journey also led him to Sri Lanka, where he extended his efforts to guide beings with karmic connections. His immense lifespan, spanning several centuries, enabled him to preserve and transmit esoteric Buddhism’s sacred teachings during pivotal periods in history. Among his most notable contributions was the mentorship of Vajrabodhi and Śubhākarasiṃha in the early 8th century. These eminent disciples played a crucial role in spreading esoteric Buddhism to China, marking a significant chapter in its evolution.
