The Sacred Mandala of Zen and Esoteric Union
Creator: Vajra Master Jinke Xuanlei
Year: 2020 (Year of the Mouse)

On the Mid-Autumn Festival of 2020 (October 1st, Year of the Rat), Vajra Master Jinke Xuanlei entered profound meditative observation and attained the state of Vajra Samadhi. This mandala artwork embodies Vajra Master Jinke Xuanlei’s profound meditative experiences, particularly his vision of Nāgārjuna Bodhisattva, where celestial light and sacred wisdom suffused his consciousness. The Master’s brushstrokes channel this realization, infusing the artwork with divine resonance and transformative energy.

In his meditation, 禅 (Zen/Dhyana) and 密 (Esoteric/Tantra) were unified in one nature, their secret forms as vast as space itself—body, speech, and mind all embodying the essence of Zen and esoteric practice. Suddenly, an extraordinary sound echoed through the void, as celestial nectar and fragrant flowers descended from the sky. Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Dakinis, celestial maidens, Vajra youths, lotus youths, and the protective deities all descended in divine light upon the sacred altar. Jinyin Buddha, with hands forming sacred mudras, emitted rays of light to bless the devoted Jinke disciples.

Inspired by this profound vision, the Master created this sacred Mandala artwork after performing a series of rituals. Positioned at the top, plum branches artfully forms the character Zen (禅 ), which embodies the meditative stillness and clarity necessary for directly perceiving one’s Buddha nature. Its upward placement signifies transcendence and enlightenment through inner awareness. Below, Tantra(密 )represents the esoteric rituals and teachings that integrate spiritual wisdom into active engagement with the world. Its grounding position reflects its foundational role in transforming understanding into compassionate action. Together, the two characters evoke a cyclical interplay of meditative insight and esoteric application, representing the non-duality of contemplative practice and outward expression.

Every element in the artwork represents the essential qualities of Zen and esoteric practice. The characters, imbued with meditative focus and divine inspiration, carry the Master’s compassionate intent to guide disciples toward inner peace and spiritual growth. For audiences, this mandala offers both an aesthetic and spiritual experience. Its bold simplicity and profound depth invite contemplation, while its sacred symbolism serves as a medium for personal and communal blessings. It is both an artifact of spiritual lineage and a call to action, urging viewers to embody clarity, compassion, and the integration of meditative wisdom into their daily lives.

This sacred artwork carries the Master’s compassionate blessings for his Jinke disciples and their families. It offers protection, eradicates karmic obstacles, increases merit and wisdom, and shields them from pandemics, conflicts, earthquakes, floods, and fires. Wherever and whenever needed, the Sacred Mandala of Meditative Sound ensures divine protection and care for all sentient beings.

“May all beings be forever protected—Swaha!”
